Reds hit by new major double blow ahead of trip to Brentford in the Premier League
Liverpool have new injury concerns over Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong ahead of their clash with Brentford in the Premier League this weekend.
The Reds emphatically halted their damaging run of four consecutive defeats across all competitions with a dominant showing in the Champions League on Wednesday night, drubbing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in Germany to snap out of their recent funk in style thanks to goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, the much-needed victory came at a cost, with Frimpong limping off early in the first half of the one-sided league phase meeting at Deutsche Bank Park and Isak later withdrawn at half-time.
With the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alisson Becker already sidelined, Arne Slot’s problems are mounting ahead of Saturday night’s showdown with Brentford, though Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo were both involved in Frankfurt after knocks.
Here’s a look at all the latest Liverpool injury news and return dates.
Isak and Ekitike started together for the first time against Frankfurt, with the partnership appearing to be paying off as the latter struck Liverpool’s equaliser soon after an opening goal by Rasmus Kristensen.
However, it was a short-lived maiden outing together for Liverpool’s summer striker arrivals as an injured Isak was replaced by Federico Chiesa at the break.
Slot revealed afterwards that the British record signing had suffered a groin issue as he “hoped for the best” and again lamented his lack of a proper pre-season.
“Alexander had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That's a pity,” the Dutchman said.
“I've said many times it is such a difficult balance to find with a player that missed three months.
“You go slowly with him and people argue about playing him longer. We've now played him for the second time in three days and unfortunately he had to go off.
“Let's hope for the best but it is not an easy balance to find when a player has been out for so long.”
Potential return date: Unknown, pending further assessment
Liverpool had already endured a tough night on the injury front against Frankfurt even before Isak’s withdrawal, with Frimpong pulling up with a hamstring issue and eventually hobbling off after treatment with less than 20 minutes on the clock.

“I expect Frimpong to be out for a few weeks with this new injury,” Slot confirmed afterwards, with Frimpong having also battled a hamstring issue earlier in his first campaign on Merseyside.
He later said: “Jeremie is a hamstring issue. He came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago and played for the national team one game, came back to us and now unfortunately after 10, 15 minutes, I don't know, he had to go off.”
Potential return date: November/December
After being passed fit to start in Sunday’s shock home defeat by Manchester United, Gravenberch - who was replaced at half-time by the Netherlands in their recent win over Finland due to a hamstring complaint - twisted his ankle in a challenge midway through the second half and required treatment.
While he initially tried to continue, he was eventually substituted in the 62nd minute and missed out against Frankfurt entirely after being unable to train in the build-up.
However, Slot hopes that he could yet be ready to play some part against Brentford this weekend.
“Yeah, I had to take him off during the weekend because he limped a little bit, as we could all see,” Slot said of Gravenberch before the trip to Frankfurt.
“So, unfortunately, he's not ready to play. That already means I definitely have to change one player and with him not being there, that might mean something for others as well, because he has such a particular quality in our squad, which we've seen when we played Bournemouth for example.

“When we played the Community Shield - that we missed a little bit of a player that was always protecting our back four. Ryan is not available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend.
“But it's an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”

Liverpool will certainly be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson for the trip to Brentford as the Brazilian is still on the mend after suffering a hamstring injury against Galatasaray last month.
Alisson also missed the Frankfurt game, though could be available for selection against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup last 16 at the end of the month.
Delivering an update on the goalkeeper before the loss to United, Slot said: "Alisson - he is not training, he is out.
“It's so difficult to say [when he will return], because the end phase of rehab can give positives and negatives, but he will not play this weekend or next week."

Liverpool defender Leoni is facing up to a year out of action with a serious knee injury.
The 18-year-old centre-back was hurt on his first appearance at Anfield against Championship side Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup as he landed awkwardly following a late challenge in the 2-1 win.
He received treatment on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with subsequent tests revealing an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Slot has confirmed that Leoni will be on the sidelines for around a year having torn his ACL.
“He’s not in a good place, of course,” the Reds boss said. “He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year.
“Being so young, coming to a new country, playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives. You always try to look at the positive side and that is that he is still so young.
“He still has so many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”
Potential return date: Late 2026
