Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Facing Major Battle for £87m Forward

After a disastrous title defence, Liverpool’s summer transfer window was always going to be busy. But after Mohamed Salah’s exit announcement, there’s even more work needing to be done.

Andy Robertson, who also joined back in 2017, is also expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season and Ibrahima Konate could follow suit.

The likes of Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa are all expected to depart too.

But for now, attention remains firmly on signing a replacement for the Egyptian King.

One name under serious consideration is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who is valued at £87m. However, Liverpool aren’t alone in their pursuit of the Ivorian…

Sky Sports Update

According to a report from Sky Sports, Liverpool are facing major competition in the race to sign the forward.

“RB Leipzig want to reward the 19-year-old with a new deal and a performance-based pay rise, but there would be no release clause included in the contract,” the report said.

“Liverpool are reportedly closely monitoring the Ivory Coast international and remain in contact with his agents.”

“The Reds will be searching for a Mohamed Salah replacement this summer, with the 33-year-old departing at the end of the season. But Liverpool will face competition for Diomande’s signature.”

“Sky Sports News understands that Man United have emerged as one of the clubs with the strongest interest. There is also interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, too, while he has been tracked by Tottenham Hotspur.”

Looking Ahead

The message is clear. Liverpool will have to act swiftly and decisively to win the race for Diomande.

The 19-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment, scoring 11 goals and assisting eight in his 29 appearances across all competitions.

However, it’s also important to remember that the teenager will be participating at the World Cup with Ivory Coast. Liverpool may have to wait until Ivory Coast’s campaign comes to an end before securing any move for the winger.

Forwards Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo could realistically leave this summer. Liverpool already spent huge money on their attack last summer with the arrivals of Alexander Isak (£125m), Florian Wirtz (£116m) and Hugo Ekitike (£69m), but another busy summer is anticipated.
