Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly struck an agreement over a sensational swap deal involving Grace Clinton and Jess Park.

City interested in Clinton

Clinton was one of United’s best players last season, helping the club to a third-place finish in the Women’s Super League and the final of the FA Cup, where they eventually suffered a defeat at the hands of Chelsea.

United had been in talks with her over a new deal but those discussions failed to materialise. Clinton has one year left on her current terms.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that City were interested in a bold swoop for the attacking midfielder. However, club boss Marc Skinner publicly moved to shut down the rumours, insisting that United had not informed him of their desire to offload Clinton.

Yet, when it became clear United were interested in Park, who was also nearing the end of her spell at her club, it intensified rumours surrounding Clinton’s future.

Now, The Guardian have revealed that United and City have agreed a deal for the England midfielders to swap clubs.

The newspaper states, “Both players have just one year remaining on their contracts and it is believed Manchester City initially had an approach to sign Clinton rejected by their local rivals in August, before Manchester United proposed the idea of bringing Park in the other direction as part of the deal.”

Park has already agreed personal terms with United and even undergone her medical.

Meanwhile, Clinton has yet to finalise personal terms with City but it looks like this won’t be a problem.

Clinton is scheduled to undergo a medical on Thursday.

The Guardian note that Clinton was widely expected to leave United next summer when her contract expired, and the club were keen to avoid losing her for nothing after seeing Alessia Russo and Mary Earps depart in similar fashion.

The WSL transfer window slams shut on Thursday at 11 pm BST.
