Manchester United have reportedly reached a major decision over the future of club reject Jadon Sancho.

Sancho hoping to revive his career at Aston Villa

Sancho’s future was the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer transfer window. United made him available for transfer after Chelsea decided not to make his signing a permanent one.

He spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues paid United a £5m fee to opt out of the obligation to make the deal permanent.

Sancho attracted offers from the likes of AS Roma and Besiktas but he turned them down.

It appeared like United would be saddled with a player they didn’t want, but on deadline day, a loan agreement was struck with Aston Villa.

Sancho will see out the 2025/26 season at the Birmingham club, where he has already made two appearances in the Premier League and Carabao Cup. The Peoples Person highlighted a report suggesting that Unai Emery wants Sancho to remain at Villa Park beyond his loan, with Villa prepared to pursue a permanent deal to close the chapter on his struggles at United.

Villa are willing to play the long game and wait until Sancho’s United contract runs out in the summer of 2026 to land him on a free transfer. United, however, hold the option to extend his deal by a further year, which they could trigger to ensure they receive a fee for his exit.

Now, TEAMtalk have given a huge update on the situation, indicating that United currently have no plans to trigger the one-year extension clause in Sancho’s contract.

United make Sancho decision

According to TEAMtalk, United are prepared to let Sancho walk away for nothing in a year’s time.

The news outlet claims, “People talk about extending in order to avoid losing him on a free but who is going to buy him? That’s been one of the big problems.”

“Also, if they activate an extension clause, then you have to consider the salary that still then continues.”

“One of United’s big issues with the out of favour players has been that they were all earning so much money and that they’ve been stuck with them clogging up the wage bill.”

“So while it’s obviously not ideal to lose Sancho on a free transfer after spending so much money on him, it might just be worth cutting ties.”

“It is unlikely they are going to get anyone to pay a good fee for him unless he has an incredible season at Villa.”

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Friday when they take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
