Our Premier League Awards honour the best – and worst – of the weekend’s top-flight action.

Moment of the Week

Sunderland are in dreamland right now. Just five promoted teams in Premier League history have won more points than the Black Cats’ 17 after nine games, two of which finished inside the top four. Regis Le Bris’ side secured their biggest win since promotion yet after beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to climb into the Champions League places.

Amid concerns about the growing gap between the Championship and Premier League, the promoted teams have all proven they’re here to compete this time around.

None more so than Sunderland, who after finishing fourth in the second tier last season, are now fourth in the Premier League. The three teams immediately below them? Manchester City, Manchester United, and champions Liverpool.

Chemsdine Talbi’s last-gasp winner in West London will live long in the memory.

Player of the Week

Few will bet getting carried away given events of recent seasons but Manchester United certainly looked to have found a new gear.

An entertaining 4-2 win over Brighton saw Ruben Amorim secure a third straight win, lifting the Red Devils into the top five.

It was the summer signings who shone, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both on target at Old Trafford. The latter was brilliant from start to finish, having developed an encouraging understanding with Amad Diallo down the right.

His desire to run in behind and cutting edge have added much-needed threat to this team, with Mbeumo rolling in a composed first, before slamming his second in late on, off the underside of the crossbar.

Goal of the Week

Zian Flemming is up and running in the Premier League after scoring twice in Burnley’s 3-2 win at Wolves. The Clarets made it back-to-back wins over fellow strugglers to boost their hopes of survival this season.

Don’t underestimate the level of technique needed to score that first goal. If that was Erling Haaland, Mo Salah or Cole Palmer, we’d be talking about it for weeks.

Save of the Week

Tottenham’s unbeaten run on the road continued with an impressive 3-0 win at Everton. Spurs look far more solid under new head coach Thomas Frank, and recorded a fourth clean sheet of the campaign on Merseyside.

This incredible cat-like save from Guglielmo Vicario ensured their goal was not breached by the Blues.

Meow.

Stat of the Week

Whenever the evergreen James Milner produces a memorable Premier League moment, you’re likely to get a great stat.

These two are absolute belters.

A week to forget for…

For the second week running, Arne Slot takes this dishonourable award. A midweek win in Europe looked to have got Liverpool back on track, only for the Reds to be beaten at Brentford.

Vulnerable at set-pieces and lacking ideas in the final third, Liverpool look a shadow of the side that won the title last season.

Four defeats in a row have also led Slot to some questionable decisions. Players are being brought on in unfamiliar roles, while there’s been a desperate unbalancing of the side when chasing games. Four defeats in a row have left Liverpool seventh, seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
