On Sunday, Real Madrid make the short trip to Vallecas to take on Rayo Vallecano, as they seek a victory to go into the November international break. A win would ensure that the league leaders hold at least a five-point advantage over the chasing pack, with just under a third of the season complete.

As per Diario AS, head coach Xabi Alonso gave his assessment of the upcoming test for his side, as he also spoke on opposite number Inigo Perez, who continues to earn plaudits for his work with Rayo.

“It’s a demanding visit, Rayo are in good shape, last year they drew there… We are ready for a very intense match. I see (Perez) with a lot of personality, with a lot of authority. He has things clear, and I like how he transmits to the players.”

Alonso also gave his reaction to comments made by Gareth Bale in the aftermath of the defeat to Liverpool, which revolved around handling “egos” at Real Madrid compared to his previous spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

“We want to be consistent, but not all games are the same. I have no reproach for the previous attitude of my players. I am very happy with them, we are taking steps. That’s what makes me happy.”

Alonso: Trent can start, Rodrygo could make line-up return

Alonso confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold “is fine” to start at Vallecas, having made his return from a hamstring injury at Anfield. He also noted that Rodrygo Goes could be used on the right wing, which is an area of uncertainty for Real Madrid due to Franco Mastantuono’s recent injury.

“It is a possibility. He has done it many times, as he has in the centre.”

It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid line up against Rayo, given that Aurelien Tchouameni is also absent. Fede Valverde is well-placed to return to midfield, which would open the door to Trent starting.
