Chelsea had to dig deep to beat Benfica in the Champions League last night, but they managed it in the end.
The Blues got by thanks in large part to a gritty midfield performance from Moises Caicedo, who was playing his third game in 7 days and still managed to excel.
On the London is Blue podcast they simply couldn’t believe how good he had been. Enzo Fernandez improved a lot, but Caicedo was next level.

“Moises Caicedo had the most duels won, 10. The most final third entries, 9. The most tackles, 8. He was tied for most chances created, he was tied for most interceptions too. And he only misplaced one of his 61 passes on the night.”
“I don’t know where he pulled the second half out of. He looked so tired in the first half. I love the guy. I think he is definitely the best in world at what he does.”
You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here:
There is one piece of good news – Caicedo got a red in his last Ecuador game, so he is banned for one of their two upcoming games in the international break. We pray this means that they just leave him back in England to recover from his exertions with Chelsea rather than fly all the way to South America to play in one friendly:
“He is suspended because of the red card card that he received [in their last game],” said journalist Nathalie Tavares
“So we’re going to have to see if he gets the call up or not. But even if he does get called up, he will miss one at least one match, a friendly for Ecuador. Maybe he will get some much needed rest.
