The Athletic reports that West Ham have submitted a complaint to FIFA over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence from the FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United, alleging DR Congo did not release him in time.
Leeds won 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium on Sunday. Farke’s side led by two going into added time, before a late West Ham double forced extra time.
Extra time finished 0-0. In the shootout, Joel Piroe and Jarrod Bowen missed, then Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson, Willy Gnonto and Pascal Struijk scored, Struijk netting off the post after Lucas Perri saved from Pablo Felipe.
Both managers rotated, but Nuno Espírito Santo’s hand was forced at right-back. Wan-Bissaka, who played the full 90 in a World Cup play-off win over Jamaica on Tuesday, stayed in DR Congo for a parade with team-mates and president Felix Tshisekedi.
West Ham did not approve any extended leave and had booked a flight for his return, the report said. The defender did not board and was seen at celebrations in Kinshasa, and the report said FIFA and DR Congo had been contacted.
Wan-Bissaka has started 21 Premier League matches this season, including each of the last 10. Kyle Walker-Peters deputised on Sunday and converted his penalty.
Leeds face Chelsea at Wembley on the weekend of April 25/26. The Bournemouth trip is now Wednesday April 22 at 8pm on Sky Sports, while Chelsea visit Brighton on Tuesday April 21.
