From the World Squad to the regional league team – and possibly much further: Maycon Cardozo is writing his very own success story at FC Bayern

The Brazilian, who grew up in Thailand, initially joined the record champions‘ World Squad in 2024 as part of an international talent selection. He was actually only planned as a kind of trial player

The next step followed in February 2025: Cardozo became only the second player ever to make the leap from the World Squad to FC Bayern’s youth academy. He was given a contract for the U17s – the start of a remarkable rise

From the U17s to the regional league

The 17-year-old was promoted to the U19s and immediately became one of the most eye-catching attacking players in the first half of the season, scoring five goals and providing five assists in 17 competitive matches

The next promotion followed on Tuesday: his debut for Bayern II in the Regionalliga. In the 1-0 win against Unterhaching, the attacking player was even in the starting eleven. According to information from BILD, he is now set to make regular appearances for the second team and continue his development there

The conditions are favorable. In the winter, the club deliberately loaned out several top talents such as Javier Fernández and Felipe Chávez in order to promote their development. This created new opportunities for young players such as Cardozo, David Santos Daiber and Deniz Ofli in the regional league team

Training with Kompany – Bayern plans for the long term

Particularly noteworthy: Cardozo has already been training regularly with Vincent Kompany’s professional squad for around six months, where he is also said to have made an impression internally

As reported by BILD, FC Bayern is currently trying to show the talented attacking player a clear perspective in order to tie him to the club in the long term. The club wants to prevent the next campus jewel from being poached by other clubs at an early stage

Before Cardozo, several World Squad players have already made the step into professional soccer – but he could be the first to make it into FC Bayern’s Bundesliga team.
