Brian Farinas could be the next Barca Atletic player to leave this summer, with Girona now emerging as the likely destination for the 20-year-old midfielder.
Barca Atletic will spend another season in Segunda RFEF, and that reality is expected to reshape the squad. Several exits have already been confirmed, and more are likely to follow.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Farinas is close to joining Girona, where he would have the chance to gain experience at a higher level.
The midfielder was one of Barca Atletic’s captains last season, but he believes his stage with the reserve team has come to an end.
The exact formula is still unclear. Girona could request a loan until the end of the season, or they could try to sign him permanently. Farinas remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028.
His departure would make sense from a development point of view. At 20, he needs a more demanding environment, and another season in Segunda RFEF may not be ideal for his growth.
Farinas was one of the few bright spots in a difficult campaign for Barca Atletic. He played 33 matches, scoring five goals and providing seven assists from midfield.
That output explains why Hansi Flick observed him closely in several first-team training sessions.
For Barcelona, this is the kind of decision that requires balance. Farinas has talent, but the pathway to the first team is extremely crowded.
A move to Girona could help him mature, compete at a higher level and prove whether he can eventually return with more authority.
If Barca keep control through a loan or future rights, this could become a smart move for everyone involved.
