Willie McStay scored

ONE – SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1921 – A poor crowd of 12,000 at Parkhead see a good 3-1 win over the black and golds of Aberdeen. The goals are scored by Tommy McInally, Adam McLean and Willie McStay with a penalty. Joe Cassidy missed a penalty, but Celtic were always well on top with Patsy Gallacher outstanding.

Jimmy Walsh scored twice

TWO – SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1955 – The weather is very pleasant for late January as Celtic maintain their League challenge with a fine 2-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park before a large crowd of 40,000. Jimmy Walsh scores the two goals, the second one with the last kick of the match

John Hughes scored

THREE – SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1966 – It is hardly surprising that Celtic lose 2-3 to Hearts at Tynecastle today for they have just come back from the Soviet Union in a way that reminds classical scholars of Homer’s Odyssey! They get back into Glasgow late on the Friday night, and then Stein, in a rare misjudgement, takes the players to Parkhead for a very late night training session, when a quick hour on the Saturday morning after a night’s sleep might have been a better idea. Stein will later admit that a mistake was made in not asking the Scottish League for a postponement. As it happens, it is a very narrow defeat but future Celt Willie Wallace scores twice for Hearts. John Hughes and Joe McBride score the goals for Celtic.

FOUR – SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1994 – Today sees the last possible chance for the Kelly regime disappear. A Scottish Cup run might just have given them a reprieve, but they go down 0-1 to Motherwell at Fir Park in another spineless performance. Yet the Board, under pressure from the Bank and from the fans, will not go! The arrogance is breath taking! It is like Hitler in his Bunker in 1945!

FIVE – SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 2011 – 38,085 are at Hampden to see a very one-sided Scottish League Cup semi-final as Celtic demolish a poor Aberdeen side 4-1. Kris Commons, Charlie Mulgrew, Thomas Rogne and Anthony Stokes with a penalty score the goals that put Celtic into the final.
