Abline and Diop named in Monaco XI to face Lens | OneFootball

Monaco have named a largely unchanged side to face Lens at Stade Louis-II at 20:45, with Abline and Edan Diop handed starts.

According to Nice-Matin, Filipe Luis sticks with continuity, making two changes from the 1-1 draw at Strasbourg. Abline and Diop come in for Stanis Idumbo, sidelined with a psoas issue, and Anis Soubeir, out with an ankle problem.

Diop’s inclusion is a mild surprise. The younger brother of Nice’s Sofiane has only one previous start for Monaco, on 30 April 2023 against Montpellier under Philippe Clément.

The 22-year-old has 20 appearances for the club and spent last season on loan at Cercle Bruges, playing 35 matches. Monaco are expected to keep a four-two-three-one shape with the defence and midfield unchanged.

Paris Brunner could operate as a false nine, supporting Abline as he did late on in Strasbourg. If that happens, Golovin and Diop would take the flanks.

The Monaco XI is Hradecky, Vanderson, Sané, Dier, Nazinho, Camara, Zakaria, Diop, Brunner, Golovin and Abline, with Zakaria captain.
