Adam Marchal has signed his first professional contract with Metz. The three-year deal runs to 2029, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old centre-back follows in the footsteps of his father, Sylvain, a former Metz captain who turned 46 on Tuesday. He played for the club from 1997 to 2005, returned from 2013 to 2015, then stayed on as coach and assistant until 2024.

The 1.88 m defender is primarily a centre-back and can also play at right-back. He has made 10 appearances and scored 3 goals for the reserves in National 3 under Abasse Ba this season.

Born in Lorient in 2007, Marchal has been at Metz since 2009. His elder brother Noam, 19, joined Lorient in 2024. In France, a first professional contract is capped at three years, with Marchal’s starting at the end of June.

Marchal expressed pride and happiness at turning professional with his academy club and intends to give everything for the shirt. He also offered a nod to Mr Goujard, one of his first coaches who predicted he would make it, and thanked him. He joins Luxembourg midfielder Diego Duarte, 19, who signed in January and was loaned immediately to RFC Seraing in Belgium.
