West Ham have agreed a deal for Taty Castellanos, a player Leeds tracked since his New York City days, and are now moving on Charlie Cresswell. The developments at the London Stadium could affect Leeds.
TEAMtalk reports that West Ham are progressing with a move for Cresswell, who is weighing up a switch to east London, and are preparing a bid, with the player open to joining. The England U21 international came through Leeds and was sold to Toulouse for £3.8m in July 2024.
Leeds inserted a 15% sell-on clause in that deal, so money could arrive amid PSR concerns before 30 June. The Athletic reports that Toulouse want £22m, which could hand Leeds around £3.3m if West Ham complete a transfer.
It would also feed into the relegation fight. West Ham are 18th, seven points behind Leeds, and pairing Cresswell with Castellanos will undoubtedly lift the mood and give Nuno Espirito Santo renewed hope of staying up.
In an ideal scenario, Leeds would try to undo Daniel Farke’s decision and bring Cresswell back. Daily Mail reports Leeds have £25m this winter, so using £22m on cover for the injured Joe Rodon would be hard to justify.
A cheaper option is being considered in Danilho Doekhi, who is into the final six months of his Union Berlin contract and available for a cut-price fee. FBREF states that Cresswell profiles as the most similar defender to the Dutchman across Europe over the last 365 days.
