Benjamin Sesko’s move from RB Leipzig to Manchester United has been voted the worst transfer of the summer window by football agents.

Heading into the summer transfer window, bolstering the attacking department was a top priority for United and central to this plan was signing a striker.

United considered a number of players including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap, Moise Kean and others, before eventually snapping up Sesko.

The Red Devils forked out around £74m to lure the Slovenian to Old Trafford. Newcastle were also strongly interested in him and offered significantly higher fees and wages but the player made it clear he was only interested in sealing a switch to United.

Sesko has made a bright start to his United career, netting two Premier League goals so far. He opened his account in the loss to Brentford before finding the target again in the following match against Sunderland.

Beyond the stats, Sesko has showcased impressive all-round qualities, standing out with his hold-up play, strength, intelligent movement, and aerial prowess.

Yet, despite all this, a group of agents who undertook a survey about the English transfer window still labelled Sesko the worst transfer of the summer.

Agents deliver brutal Sesko verdict

Out of the 20 agents that were surveyed by The Athletic, six voted Sesko as the worst signing of the summer.

One agent told the newspaper, “Way too much money and much too soon.”

Another added, “They were pressurised into making that signing.”

A third agent remarked, “A lot of money for not much of a pedigree.”

Despite the claims of the surveyed agents, it’s clear that Sesko is hitting his stride at United and on current trajectory, he will prove to be a shrewd acquisition. Ruben Amorim has consistently maintained that the 22-year-old has what it takes to lead United’s frontline for many years.
