Álex Calatrava has completed his move from CD Castellón to RCD Espanyol, then marked his exit with an emotional message to supporters reflecting on two years that reshaped his career.
The player said in a post that he arrived at SkyFi Castalia in summer 2024 full of hope and backed by a club that believed in him as he looked to establish himself in the professional game. He thanked team-mates, coaches and staff, and praised a fanbase that made him feel he was defending more than a badge.
Joining on a free from Atlético de Madrid B, then in Primera RFEF, he quickly became one of LaLiga Hypermotion’s most decisive players. He delivered six goals and 11 assists in his first season. He followed up with 15 goals and eight assists, driving a push for promotion to Primera División.
His message dwelt on personal and sporting growth, the moments he would carry with him and the pride of wearing Castellón’s shirt. Every match at Castalia, every cheer and embrace, was described as a lasting memory. He underlined a special connection with the orellut crowd.
The farewell also recognised that a new chapter now begins, while stressing lasting affection, respect and gratitude for the club. Espanyol moved decisively amid interest from other sides, with the deal worth a little over five million euros including financing interest, plus a sell-on percentage for Castellón. It is the largest transfer in the club’s history by a clear margin.
