Alex Mowatt closing in on Derby County move from West Brom | OneFootball

The 31-year-old is set to end five years at The Hawthorns, having made 170 appearances and scored 14 goals. In the final year of his contract, he is among James Morrison’s oldest options and is joint-longest serving alongside Jayson Molumby after joining in 2021.

Derby had an initial approach knocked back on Wednesday, before Albion accepted an offer. Mowatt underwent medical checks on Thursday and the deal could be finalised on Friday.

Albion are set to make a profit on a player signed on a free from Barnsley in 2021. Rams head coach John Eustace has long admired Mowatt and a planned move last summer fell through, but their interest has persisted.

Recent arrivals Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula have left Albion well stocked in central midfield, with five senior options. Mowatt, regarded as a leader at The Hawthorns, now looks bound for the east Midlands as Morrison’s men visit Norwich this weekend.

He started last weekend’s EFL Cup win at Rotherham ahead of Molumby. Initially used as a substitute when Morrison took charge in the spring, he earned a place in Morrison’s starting side during the run to survival.
