Derby County Close On West Brom Star After Medical | OneFootball

Derby County have given West Brom midfielder Alex Mowatt a medical ahead of taking him to Pride Park, according to BBC Sport Derby.

The Leeds United academy product has been the subject of interest from John Eustace’s Rams, who recently had an offer turned down by West Brom.

Mowatt is now inside the final year of his deal at the Hawthorns and appears to be closing in on heading to Derby.

An agreement looks to have been reached as Mowatt has been put through his medical paces by Derby ahead of joining the club.

He featured heavily for West Brom over the course of last season, clocked 39 matches in the Championship, which included making 32 starts.

For the Baggies, the campaign was one of turmoil as they battled against being relegated, with James Morrison taking over in a fire-fighting role and keeping the club up.

After departing Leeds, where he came through the youth set-up, Mowatt left for Barnsley, where he featured on a regular basis at Oakwell.

West Brom signed Mowatt in the summer of 2021, but the attack-minded midfielder had a loan stint with Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 campaign.

Mowatt now looks set for a new chapter at Derby, where he will look to make an instant impact at a club who will have aspirations of a top eight finish.

The Rams went down to a 2-1 defeat to Lincoln City in the EFL Cup last weekend, while their Championship opener against Charlton Athletic looms large on the horizon for this weekend.

When Mowatt might be able to make his Derby debut is unclear, with the Rams set to host Cardiff City on 22nd August.

The midfielder will also have the clash against West Brom at Pride Park on 9th September firmly in his thoughts.
