Alex Santana and Charles returned to action as Corinthians drew 1-1 with Cascavel in an interseason friendly in Paraná, Matheus Pereira scoring.
Staged at Estádio Olímpico Regional, the friendly formed part of Corinthians’ interseason schedule. According to Meu Timao, more than 19,000 Corinthians supporters were in attendance as the team returned after an almost one and a half month hiatus for the World Cup.
Alex Santana’s previous outing for Corinthians was roughly two and a half months earlier, a 2-1 defeat to Mirassol in the league when he replaced Breno Bidon. That had been only his second appearance since a long lay-off last year, a loan to Grêmio and a return followed by omission under Dorival Júnior. He was reinstated in April by Fernando Diniz and now has 39 appearances and two goals.
Charles had been sidelined for even longer. He last featured more than three months ago in a 3-1 loss to Fluminense in the league, starting before being withdrawn in the second half for Lingard.
His opportunities have diminished under Diniz. Under Dorival Júnior he was a regular across 2025 and 2026, performances fluctuating and the fanbase unconvinced. He has 73 appearances, two goals and one assist.
Corinthians are next in action on Thursday 23, when they host Remo at Neo Química Arena in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
