São Paulo prosecutors notify Corinthians ahead of Arena debt review | OneFootball

São Paulo’s public prosecutor has notified Corinthians to state its position within 10 days on calculations for the Neo Química Arena debt before a technical review.

According to Meu Timao, the request comes before referral to CAEX-Crim for a mathematical check on the R$ 536 million in Caixa’s enforcement, plus indices, rates, penalties and any itemised record.

The procedure relies on minutes of the club’s Deliberative Council meeting on 22 June 2022, which recorded internal disagreements over the figures.

Prosecutor Cássio Conserino is leading the case. Any findings could inform the ongoing probe into whether court intervention is viable and whether there was institutionalised reckless management, though no intervention is being ordered at this stage.

After the club responds, prosecutors are expected to send their notes to CAEX-Crim, with the conclusions potentially feeding into the civil inquiry.

The administrative procedure followed a complaint by forensic expert Anísio Castelo Branco, CEO of Instituto de Perícia Investigativa, who produced a dossier alleging inconsistencies in debt updates, particularly interest, fines and charges.

Corinthians secured up to R$ 400 million in 2013 to build the stadium, and the expert identified a discrepancy of R$ 402.7 million in updated values. The club’s June balance shows Arena liabilities at R$ 630 million, while Caixa said credit operations are protected by banking secrecy. The debt was restructured in 2022 under Duilio Monteiro Alves, including obligations with Caixa and BNDES, with payments now quarterly.
