Long considered an untouchable starter at Eintracht Frankfurt, Farès Chaïbi saw his status waver following the arrival of Albert Riera. But against Freiburg, the Algerian international delivered a resounding response: a goal, an assist, and a revitalizing impact off the bench to turn the match on its head.

Unwavering ambition

Interviewed by Bild, the attacking midfielder didn’t dodge the issue.

"The past few weeks have been very tough for me, so scoring this goal means a lot," he admitted.

"Accept being a substitute? No. Everyone knows I’m highly ambitious. I fight every week for a spot in the starting eleven," he declared.

With just days to go before the Algerian national team’s training camp—whose squad will be announced by Vladimir Petkovic—Chaïbi seems to have made his case at the perfect moment. Barring any surprises, his call-up now looks all but certain.
