Álvaro García made his professional debut only weeks ago at 26, and on Saturday the CD Castellón winter signing will meet former club Racing at SkyFi Castalia after a journey he describes as far from simple.

Born in Colindres in October 1999, he entered Racing’s academy at the first opportunity and stayed until his first year as a youth. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he was loaned to Tropezón and did not return to the club.

Back home, football briefly took a back seat. He played for Colindres while focusing on studies, then climbed through Regional Preferente, Tercera and Segunda B with Laredo, Segunda RFEF with Arenas de Getxo and SD Logroñés, and Primera RFEF with Costa Brava and Mérida.

His 12 league goals, plus one in the Copa, made him Primera RFEF’s leading scorer in the first half of the season. Castellón triggered his €150,000 release clause and tied him down until June 2028.

He says the last 18 months have hardened his mindset. A winning team, a defined role and exposure to Mérida’s big-data project have eased his settling in at Castalia. He is in contention to cover the ban of Ousmane Camara.

He felt Castellón was the obvious choice during a turbulent window and believes the move was right. He calls himself a penalty-box forward who can also drop in, and notes the three strikers offer contrasting profiles. He says there will be minutes for everyone and believes they will do big things.
