Club América confirmed on Saturday that midfielder Pedro Aquino is set to undergo surgery after sustaining a fracture in his foot.

Aquino picked up the injury in training whilst on international duty with Péru and, according to ESPN, could be out for two months.

The 26-year-old midfielder had controversially played for Péru whilst injured in November 2021 and it was initially believed that Aquino had returned to the Azulcremas out of an abundance of caution this time around.

However, an x-ray has revealed a fracture to his fifth metatarsal requiring surgery. A big blow for the Las Águilas as the midfielder will miss a large portion of the Clausura 2022.

América return to action next Saturday when they host Atlético de San Luis.
