Andy Carroll has confirmed he was sexually assaulted by former television dance coach Kevin Adams, detailing the ordeal in his new autobiography. He said naming Adams followed court documents identifying him.
"Now that Kevin Adams has been named in court documents as my abuser, I can confirm it. Hopefully now I can finally start to put this chapter behind me. This had a devastating impact on my life and loved ones," he told The Sun on Sunday.
Adams, a former dance coach on the BBC show Fame Academy, was convicted of sexual offences at Chelmsford Crown Court in 2023 and jailed for 20 months. He was placed on the Sex Offender Register and barred from entering the village where Carroll lived.
Carroll writes that Adams invited himself over to watch a boxing match after a game. He felt lightheaded after drinks were mixed and later woke to a sexual assault. He forced Adams out, locked the door, then rang police and his nanny, briefly fearing he might have killed him.
He says the trauma affected every part of his life and made football hard to focus on. After publication, he received strong support from other male victims and urged men to speak when ready, while warning that naming a perpetrator brings heavy emotional consequences.
On the pitch, Carroll continues with National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge. Away from football, he is preparing for a separate trial next January after pleading not guilty to breaching a non-molestation order.
