Angers midfielder Yassin Belkhdim has undergone surgery on a fractured forearm and says his season is over. The 24-year-old was injured in training on Friday.

He travelled with the squad to Roazhon Park on Saturday but was not on the teamsheet for the 1-2 defeat to Rennes on matchday 29.

Head coach Alexandre Dujeux said he took a blow to the arm the day before, was not fit to play, and was left out as he was not at 100%.

Posting on Instagram, Belkhdim explained the fracture required surgery, added he had given everything this season without ever cutting corners, and said he is proud of the campaign while hoping it ends with positive results.

It is a major setback for Angers, 13th, who will be without a key midfielder for the final five matches. Before Rennes, he had featured in 27 league games with 2 goals and 2 assists, missing only the 0-2 loss at Nice on matchday 26 through suspension for yellow-card accumulation.
