Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the departure of Belgian international Arthur Theate to Bologna. The 26-year-old returns to his former club on a season-long loan to June 2027, with an option to buy.
Kicker reports that Frankfurt will receive a €1m loan fee.
The move had been expected. Theate was left out of Adi Hütter’s squad for the opening-round DFB-Pokal win over SC St. Tönis.
He initially joined Frankfurt on loan from Stade Rennes in summer 2024 before a permanent clause of about €13m was activated. He departs after 75 competitive appearances, 55 of them in the Bundesliga.
His exit further reduces Frankfurt’s centre-back depth, with Robin Koch and summer arrival Otávio the only fit specialists and Nnamdi Collins injured. The club have been working on a deal for Rennes defender Lilian Brassier.
Sporting director Timmo Hardung thanked Theate for his two years of service and commitment, saying he quickly became an important part of the team. He wished the defender well for his future in Bologna.
