Santos are finalising a move for Arthur on a four-month contract running to 31 December 2026, with an option to extend. According to Diario Do Peixe, the deal advanced after the club resolved a registration ban that had stopped new signings.
Arthur Melo, formerly of Grêmio and Brazil, is expected to arrive in the Baixada Santista in the coming days to complete procedures and sign. He had been on loan at Grêmio, was returned to Juventus, then agreed to terminate his contract with the Italian club last week.
The agreement is set to be worth about R$ 2 million across the term, including salary, a signing-on fee and image rights.
Neymar recommended Arthur to the Santos hierarchy. Terms with the midfielder were settled in recent days, with completion delayed until the transfer ban was regularised.
Free on the market after leaving Juventus, Arthur fits the club’s search for midfield reinforcement without a transfer fee. His arrival will be the club’s first addition of this window. The board still plan further business, although finances constrain investment.
Santos are prioritising market opportunities, especially free agents or affordable deals. Arthur matches that approach and comes with Neymar’s backing, who is one of the most influential figures in the squad. The club are likely to keep assessing targets linked to key figures in the football department, and suggestions from Cuca’s staff, director of football Alexandre Mattos and players such as Neymar and Gabriel Barbosa may be considered.
