Aston Villa have strengthened their squad with the arrivals of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and left-back Matteo Ruggeri.
Suzuki has joined from Serie A side Parma for a fee understood to be around £30 million. The 23-year-old Japan international is expected to compete for the starting goalkeeper position as uncertainty continues over Emiliano Martínez’s future following his proposed move to Juventus falling through.
Suzuki spent the past two seasons at Parma, making 59 appearances for the Italian club. Villa see him as a long-term option between the posts and believe he could establish himself as their first-choice goalkeeper for many years.
Ruggeri, meanwhile, arrives from Atlético Madrid in a deal worth approximately £17 million. The 24-year-old defender is expected to fill the gap left by Lucas Digne, who recently returned to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italian left-back joined Atlético last summer after more than 100 appearances for Atalanta, where he won the Europa League in 2024. He featured 26 times in La Liga last season and also made 15 Champions League appearances.
Both new signings could be involved immediately, with Villa travelling to Brighton for their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday.
