Ruggeri completes Aston Villa move from Atletico Madrid | OneFootball

Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid.

The club said in a statement that the 24-year-old has joined on a permanent deal and will wear number 13.

He became Villa's second addition on Wednesday morning, after Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki arrived from Parma for €35m.

An Atalanta academy graduate, he made over 100 appearances and won the Europa League in 2024 before joining Atletico last summer on a five-year contract. He featured 47 times in 2025-26, including 26 LaLiga matches and 15 in the Champions League.

He strengthens Unai Emery's options at left-back following Lucas Digne's departure to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the window.

Ruggeri has represented Italy across youth levels, has been called up by the senior side, but is yet to make his debut.
