As part of its Asian tour, FC Bayern will face its toughest opponent yet in preseason. Ahead of the match against Aston Villa, right back Matty Cash spoke with great respect about the German record champions. The Polish international considers Vincent Kompany’s team to be one of the best opponents currently in world soccer.

Following friendly matches against Wehen Wiesbaden, Rottach-Egern, and Jeju SK, FC Bayern now faces its first real test of the preseason in the form of Aston Villa. The Europa League champions are traveling to Hong Kong with a great deal of confidence and are also using the match as a dress rehearsal for the UEFA Super Cup against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Ahead of the matchup, Aston Villa pro Matty Cash had high praise for the German record champions.

Cash: “Bayern is among the world’s best.”

“It’s going to be a tough challenge. They’re probably one of the best teams in the world right now, so it’s a great test for us.”

The Polish national team player sees the match as ideal preparation for the English side’s next big game. “It’s going to be really good; they’re another strong opponent. We’re looking forward to it and hope it prepares us well for the match against PSG [UEFA Super Cup].”

The 29-year-old’s comments underscore FC Bayern’s high international standing. Despite the Premier League’s financial dominance, the German record champions are still regarded by many players and experts as one of the strongest teams in Europe.

An Important Test for Kompany

The match against Aston Villa is also of great importance to Vincent Kompany. Following the 2-1 victory over Jeju SK, the Belgian wants to test his team against a top-tier opponent and gain further insights ahead of the season opener.

The players returning from the World Cup are likely to see more playing time than they have recently. At the same time, the focus remains on integrating new signings Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, as well as developing the club’s numerous young talents.

Although the match is officially just a friendly, it promises to be highly intense. Both FC Bayern and Aston Villa are in the decisive phase of their preseason preparations and are looking to prove themselves against a top international opponent. Accordingly, the match in Hong Kong should provide an early indication of just how far along both teams actually are, just a few weeks before their first competitive matches.
