That feels good! After five league matches without a win, our girls have secured three points again, beating Rapid 1–0. Valentina Akrap won the evenly matched duel against the newly promoted Green and Whites shortly before the hour mark. Two ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga debutants, Ajlina Berisha and Annika Huber, also played their part in sealing the team's first away win of the season.

Match summary

It took less than two minutes for a goal celebration to be cut short: Magdalena Schwarz connected with a corner, but goalkeeper Van Niehoff dived to the right corner just in time to defuse the shot. At the other end, Brandl - appearing at the far post - and König (via a clever corner routine) created early half-chances.

Otherwise, the teams largely cancelled each other out during the first 45 minutes. Van Niehoff handled a tricky corner from Schirmbrand well, just as her counterpart Valerie Guha did when she reacted with great presence of mind to a chipped ball aimed at Brandl - and the teams headed into the break with the scoreline reflecting the balanced nature of the game at 0–0...

We returned from the interval with renewed ambition, and were promptly rewarded. Set-piece specialist Sophia Schirmbrand once again delivered the ball into the middle, where Valentina Akrap latched onto it and clinically fired it into the net on the turn (57') - to give us the lead!

The newly promoted side was now called upon to respond, though until the closing stages, they managed nothing more than a hybrid shot-cum-cross from Brandl. While our girls were perhaps a bit wasteful with the counter-attacks that could have sealed the game, Rammel’s rather careless miss of a big opportunity for the Green and Whites meant we could celebrate our first away win of the season!

I am obviously very happy that we managed to win today against tough, skilled opponents who gave us absolutely nothing for free. Unfortunately, we had to do without key players at short notice, yet we remained very solid defensively and controlled the match for long stretches. There were phases where we struggled in possession, but the girls put in a mature performance - especially considering how young the squad was, including two debutants in Ajlina Berisha and Annika Huber. Picking up three points in Vienna with such a young team is, quite simply, a fantastic achievement!
