Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, says he has no regrets over sacking Filipe Luís in March and backing Leonardo Jardim.

"I have no doubt about the decision to part with Filipe and bring in Leonardo Jardim. We all make mistakes, but in this case I never doubted what we had to do. The fan in me had doubts, the executive did not. At that moment, among the 20 Série A clubs, Flamengo were 20th, the worst team in performance that year," he told Charla Podcast.

"Was it early? The other 19 were also at the start. We had a fantastic season the year before, with five defeats all year. But in 2026 we had six defeats in 40 days at the start. Not every time you win everything is everything right, and not every time you lose everything is everything wrong."

Flamengo followed a historic 2025 with a slow start to 2026, finishing runners-up in the Supercopa do Brasil and Recopa Sul-Americana. Filipe Luís was dismissed after an 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca semi-final, being informed of his exit on 2 March.

As head coach he took charge of 101 matches, winning 64, drawing 22 and losing 15, a 70% return. He won seven trophies, including the Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, Carioca, Brasileirão, Libertadores, Derby das Américas and Challenger Cup.

Jardim has since overseen 23 games for Flamengo, with 16 wins, four draws and three defeats.
