Flamengo have paired the Libertadores with the Brasileirão in one season, and the continental title with the Copa do Brasil, but never all three at once. According to Coluna Do Fla, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap, has set that unprecedented treble as the dream.

He believes Leonardo Jardim’s side are on the right path, using rotation to keep players fresh. The coach typically changes four or five starters from one game to the next.

Asked about dismissing Filipe Luís in March, Bap said the switch was necessary, warning the league campaign was at risk if the change had dragged on. He argued you do not win the Brasileirão early, but you can lose it.

He added Flamengo would not wait 12 or 13 rounds to sit 16th then hire Dorival, insisting that scenario would leave the league already lost. His priorities are the Brasileirão, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, and he wants them all, backed by planning and rotation.

That ambition leans heavily on Thursday 14, when Flamengo visit Vitória in the Copa do Brasil knockout at Barradão. They won the first leg 2-1 and need only a draw to advance. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time.
