Barcelona academy duo could be called up by Spain for UEFA Nations League fixtures | OneFootball

The first international break of the 2026/27 season will get underway later this month, with national teams set to play up to as many as four games over a three-week period, which is a departure from two separate windows in September and October.

FC Barcelona, as is the case with all international breaks, will have a number of players flying away to represent their national team.

And, much like the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, the Spain national team is expected to have a strong Barça core once again as they begin their UEFA Nations League campaign.

Marc Bernal and Fermin Lopez in contention

Indeed, according to SPORT, both Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal could be in line for a call-up to the Spain squad later this month, along with those who already took part at the World Cup.

La Roja had Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and Gavi from the Barcelona squad in the tournament this summer.

Ferran Torres, who was also part of the squad, has left the club, while Rodri, who captained Spain, has now joined the Blaugrana.

All are very much likely to be involved with the national team again. And on top of that, both Fermin and Bernal could be included by manager Luis de la Fuente.

Fine starts for the La Masia duo

Both Fermin and Bernal have enjoyed fine starts to the 2026/27 campaign at Barcelona.

Fermin endured a heartbreak in the summer as an injury forced him to miss the World Cup. But he has excelled in the new season, already scoring four goals and registering two assists from four La Liga games.

As for Bernal, the teenage midfielder made his Spain debut in an unofficial friendly before the World Cup, and continues to remain on De la Fuente’s radar.

The La Masia graduate has started three of Barcelona’s four league games this season, shining brightly despite the added competition in midfield from Rodri.

So, there is a solid possibility that he could be a part of the La Roja squad as they take on England, Czechia, and Croatia (twice) in the UEFA Nations League in the upcoming international break.
