The Spanish champions have submitted a new verbal proposal toManchester City worth an initial €60m plus add-ons, having had an opening offer turned down.
Rodri has expressed his desire to move to Barcelona with the 30-year-old eager to return toLa Liga. He has nominated Barcelona as his preferred destination, despite previous interest from Real Madrid.
The midfielder has less than 12 months to run on his contract and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January, if a deal is not done this summer.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that City are demanding around €80m for Rodri, but a compromise between Barcelona's latest bid and that asking price is likely. The specificity of the add-ons will be crucial to talks between the clubs.
Rodri has returned to Manchester City after starring for Spain at this summer's World Cup. The midfielder won the Golden Ball, awarded to the Player of the Tournament, as Spain were crowned world champions for a second time in North America.
After seven seasons at the Etihad and fourPremier League titles, he has been open in his desire to return to La Liga. He came through the academy system at Villarreal and had a single-season spell at Atletico Madrid before his transfer to the Premier League in 2019.
