Eric Garcia has emerged as one of Hansi Flick’s most trusted players at FC Barcelona this season, starting in all six La Liga fixtures and showcasing his versatility across the backline.
The 24-year-old has featured as right-back (against Mallorca, Levante and Real Oviedo), centre-back (versus Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Levante), and even as left-back when required.
Last night against Oviedo, it was Garcia who kickstarted the second-half comeback for Barça, scoring the all-important equaliser.
As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that Eric Garcia is knocking on the doors of the Spanish national team, and could earn a call-up for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria.
The La Roja head coach is expected to announce the squad for the two games in October next week, and Garcia has made a strong case to be included on the list.

Garcia has not played for the senior national team since 2022 under Luis Enrique, though he was a key figure for Santi Denia’s Olympics side that claimed gold at Paris 2024.
De la Fuente has yet to use him with La Roja, but Garcia has stayed firmly on the Spain head coach’s radar. His performances this season have been extremely impressive and could be rewarded with a call-up.
This season, the only match he started on the bench was Barcelona’s Champions League opener away to Newcastle United, featuring from kickoff in the rest of the six league games.
Goals are not his main responsibility, but they add weight to his growing importance. His equaliser at Oviedo underlined his knack for popping up in the box. It was his first of the season, following on from the five he scored in 2024/25.
All this could now lead to him returning to the Spanish national team setup for their upcoming matches in October.
