FC Barcelona are looking for a new signing in the centre-back department heading into the upcoming January transfer window.

The injury to Andreas Christensen has forced the sporting department, led by Deco, to act and explore possible options to reinforce the defensive line in the mid-season trading period.

A left-footed centre-back would be Barcelona’s preferred target, leading to links with Marcos Senesi and Nicolas Otamendi, among others.

No interest in Lucas Beraldo

However, according to Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Barcelona have zero interest in pursuing a move for PSG defender Lucas Beraldo, who fits the profile of players they want to sign in January.

The 22-year-old is a left-footed defender capable of playing at centre-back and left-back, has some experience at this level, and has found minutes hard to come by at PSG this season.

As such, there had been talks of a potential departure for the Brazilian in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Despite that, Barcelona have not at any point considered requesting the loan of Beraldo from PSG.

This is despite the good personal relationship between the sporting directors of the two clubs, Deco and Luis Campos, and the fact that, at an institutional level, relations between Joan Laporta and Nasser Al-Khelaifi have improved greatly.

As mentioned earlier, PSG had been looking for a destination for the 22-year-old Brazilian international for January.

Beraldo’s future had been pointing towards Turkey, where Galatasaray and Besiktas had shown interest. In Brazil, meanwhile, the major clubs Flamengo and Palmeiras were also willing to compete for his signing.

In recent days, however, there has been a radical change in scenario with Beraldo. Affected by a series of injuries within the squad, PSG boss Luis Enrique has blocked his departure. His stay in Paris is now guaranteed, at least until June.

Irrespective of these developments, Beraldo was never considered as a potential target for a January loan move at Barcelona, who continue to scour the market for reinforcements.
