Barcelona President Joan Laporta has confirmed that new manager Hansi Flick will finally appear before the media in the next three weeks. The German manager made a handful of statements via the club’s official channel after his signing was announced, but is yet to formally address the fans or the media.

During an interview with Catalunya Radio, where the headline was that Barcelona can afford to sign Nico Williams, Laporta confirmed that Flick would give a press conference before their preseason tour to the USA.

“Flick is a very personable and calm man, very serious. He is learning the language, and we’re giving him some time. There will be a presentation before the tour to the US. For now he is just arriving.”

Barcelona will head out to the USA on the 28th of July, arriving in Florida before games with Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan. It means that Flick will likely be put in front of the press a couple of weeks into preseason training.

Laporta was not thrilled by injuries to Pedri and Ronald Araujo either. The first is set for a month to six weeks out, while the latter is unlikely to feature before September.

“Starting the season again with Pedri injured doesn’t make me happy, but I’m sure that with the new fitness coaches things will go well. With Araujo too, we have to be strong and try to have a competitive squad.”

Since the debacle that was Xavi Hernandez’s departure, there has at least in the media been a degree of gloom about their summer, but Laporta seemed in a good mood and relaxed during his call, suggesting perhaps that good news on the way. Certainly Laporta seems to be keen to fuel some excitement in the Barcelona fanbase ahead of the new season.
