‘Fantastic player’ – Hansi Flick’s close friend confirms his ‘dream’ Barcelona signing | OneFootball

The ‘dream’ summer signing on the part of new Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Wednesday been named.

And the player’s identity, in truth, should come as little surprise.

This comes amid long-standing speculation linking him with a move to Catalunya’s capital, with a view to next season.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

It is of course Spanish football’s worst-kept secret that the brass at the Camp Nou have identified wide-man Williams as a priority addition for the 2024/25 campaign.

Deco and co. consider the 22-year-old – fresh off a scintillating campaign at Euro 2024 – the missing piece from the club’s frontline, where he would link up with close friend Lamine Yamal, and veteran frontman Robert Lewandowski.

And, evidently, Barca’s new headmaster is of much the same opinion.

Speaking in an interview with Diario Sport on Wednesday, German legend Lothar Matthäus, a close friend of Hansi Flick, was drawn on his compatriot’s hopes for the summer.

And Matthäus went on to confirm that Athletic Club standout Williams has indeed emerged as something of a ‘dream’ signing on Flick’s part:

“I hope that Barça ends up signing Nico Williams. My friend Hansi Flick dreams of it.

“His release clause is only 60 million euros and his current value is already above 100 million euros. He is a fantastic player.”
