The future of Jan Virgili has been one of the biggest question marks at La Masia this summer.

Barcelona have been always been unsure what to do with the young prodigy, who is one of the most talented players in the academy.

Virgili has been linked with a move to a few Spanish clubs this summer, but the move hasn’t materialised, with Barcelona looking for €4 million.

Virgili’s performance at Maracana impress Barcelona

Barcelona, however, were forced to look into the future of Jan Virgili following his explosive performance in the Intercontinental Cup final at the iconic Maracana stadium.

The 19-year-old winger tormented Flamengo defenders on both flanks, scoring a stunning goal, hitting the post once, and creating several chances.

In total, he attempted 15 dribbles, completing nine, and even provided assists that his teammates could not capitalise on.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Virgili’s performance at the Maracana has forced Barcelona to reconsider his future at the club.

Virgili’s talent has caught the eye of Mallorca and Almeria, both keen to bring him in, but Barça are torn.

Hansi Flick does not yet see him ready for the first team, but Segunda RFEF football with Barça Atletic is clearly beneath his level.

While Barcelona were looking for a fee of €4 million for 50% of the player’s transfer rights, the club believe it is less. Still, given his performance in Brazil, it may be hard for the club to justify letting him go at such a figure.

It will be interesting to see if the Catalans can secure a loan deal for the young Spaniard, which will give him the opportunity to prove his skills at the highest level while remaining at Barça.
