Bayern Munich and Flamengo traded playful messages after both clubs were shortlisted for France Football’s Best Team of last season, according to Coluna Do Fla.
Bayern’s account wrote “União Sinistra” alongside the two crests, and Flamengo replied “União sinistra demais”. The exchange quickly went viral among supporters of both sides.
Arsenal, Bodo/Glimt and Paris Saint-Germain complete the five, with the category judged on trophies, performance and fair play.
The award covers 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026. In that spell Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores and the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro.
This is only the second edition. Botafogo represented Brazil first time round as domestic and continental champions, though the prize went to PSG.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is on 26 October in London. Vini Jr is also up for an individual prize, having finished runner-up in 2024 behind Rodri in a contentious vote.
The clubs met at the Club World Cup in the United States, where Flamengo beat Chelsea. Bayern then knocked them out 4-2 in the round of 16.
That online back-and-forth adds a lighter touch to a fresh rivalry as both pursue the same collective honour.
Flamengo visit Independiente del Valle on Thursday 10 for a Libertadores quarter-final first leg in Quito at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time.
