Bayern confirm Palhinha sale to Benfica, say they have 'found a solution' | OneFootball

Bayern Munich have confirmed the permanent departure of João Palhinha to Benfica. The club said in a statement that the Portugal international has returned to Lisbon, his hometown where he began his professional career at Sporting.

The announcement included comments from managing director for football Max Eberl, who set out the long negotiations that led to a 14 million euro sale. Talks were conducted openly with Palhinha and all sides agreed on a solution, the midfielder opting to continue in his home country.

Eberl thanked Palhinha for his contribution and, on behalf of Bayern, wished him well for the future.

Palhinha moved to Bavaria in 2024 for about 50 million euros after two outstanding seasons at Fulham under Marco Silva.

He made 25 appearances in his debut campaign, struggled to convince, and spent last season on loan at Tottenham. He was listed as surplus and had been outside Vincent Kompany’s plans since the start of pre-season.
