Bayern’s amateur team is falling well short of expectations in the Regionalliga. Coach Dante is facing criticism.

Bayern’s reserve team has had a thoroughly disappointing start to the season. After nine games, the team has only 11 points and sits in 11th place in the Bavarian Regional League with a goal differential of 9–8. They are already 12 points behind league-leading Buchbach.

As a result, their main goal of promotion is already in serious jeopardy early in the season. At the same time, the pressure on Dante is mounting. The former Bayern defender took over the second team just this summer and is in his first coaching role there.

Prior to that, the Brazilian had brought his exceptionally long playing career to a close. Dante remained active for the French first-division club OGC Nice until the age of 42.

Following the weak start, there is reportedly criticism of the new coach within the Bayern amateurs’ circle. In particular, Dante has so far failed to mold the numerous talented players into a consistently performing team.

Bayern officials continue to stand by Dante

Nevertheless, there is apparently no discussion of replacing the coach within the club. According to information from the *Abendzeitung*, club officials continue to stand behind Dante. A premature parting of ways is reportedly not on the table at this time.

That said, there are certainly extenuating circumstances for the coach. In recent weeks, Dante has repeatedly had to do without key players. Tim Binder and Guido della Rovere were unavailable at times. The long-term absence of Maycon Cardozo, who will be out for several more months due to a shoulder injury, is also particularly significant.

Despite the results, Dante himself sees progress in his team. “We’ve already made progress, for example in high-pressure, aggressive pressing, in winning one-on-one duels, and in terms of patience when in possession. But offensively, I still feel we need a bit more willingness to take risks and be bolder in one-on-one situations. We have players with the quality needed for that,” he recently told BILD.

The offense, in particular, has so far confirmed this assessment. Nine goals in nine games are not enough for a team with the ambitions of Bayern’s reserve squad.

Nevertheless, Dante continues to be given the opportunity to drive the team’s development forward. FC Bayern is apparently still a long way from firing the coach at this point. But one thing is also clear: if the results don’t improve, the discussion surrounding the high-profile rookie coach is unlikely to die down anytime soon.
