Palhinha is closing in on a move to Benfica, and is said to have undergone medical tests in Lisbon on Monday.

Record reports that Bayern Munich allowed the 31-year-old to remain in Lisbon to complete routine checks before a transfer to the Estádio da Luz. The process is at a very advanced stage, and he is not expected to return to Germany.

He flew into Portugal on Saturday with several suitcases, at a time when talks between Benfica and Bayern were close to being finalised. The trip coincided with Bayern’s 2-1 Supercup win over Borussia Dortmund.

On arrival, he struck a cautious tone, saying he remained a Bayern player, had two days off to spend with his children and planned to return to Munich on Sunday. Subsequent developments, however, have pointed towards him staying in Lisbon.

He is expected to complete remaining formalities before any announcement. A presentation could follow very soon, between Monday and Tuesday.
