Besiktas have reportedly struck an agreement with Lazio for Nuno Tavares, but still can’t finalize the player’s transfer.
The Portuguese has been placed on the transfer list after failing to convince Maurizio Sarri during the first half of the season and losing his starting place to Luca Pellegrini. The Biancocelesti have also found a ready-made replacement in Alfonso Pedraza, who agreed to join them next summer as a free agent. Nevertheless, Tavares’ departure could pave the way for a January deal with Villarreal.
Il Messaggero revealed the latest developments on the track, explaining that Besiktas are still leading the race for the 25-year-old Portuguese international. The Turkish giants have already reached a deal with Lazio for a loan move that includes an obligation to buy for €10 million, which can be triggered if the player reaches a certain number of appearances.
Nevertheless, Tavares isn’t fully convinced by the move to Istanbul, as he continues to hold out for Al-Ittihad, who had expressed their interest in his services in recent weeks, but didn’t follow up with a concrete offer. The left-back remains enticed by the prospect of playing under the tutelage of his compatriot, Sergio Conceicao.
In addition to the Turkish and Saudi giants, Como has recently emerged as a third possible destination. When asked about the potential arrival of the former Arsenal man, Cesc Fabregas did not deny the Lariani’s interest in the player.
We are waiting for developments, but we are not close to concluding a deal
The Lisbon native had a productive first season at Lazio under Marco Baroni, at least prior to his recurring injuries. But this season, he has yet to make a direct goal contribution in Serie A, but did provide the assist for Mattia Zaccagni’s winner against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia.
