Former Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen striker Marvin Ducksch looks set to remain at Birmingham City beyond the transfer deadline after a bizarre deadline-day twist.
According to Bild, Ducksch had reached an agreement with Valencia CF over a late move to the Spanish top flight after being identified as a replacement for the injured Umar Sadiq.
Although Birmingham had previously indicated to Ducksch that they would allow him to leave on a free transfer if a suitable offer came in, the Championship side ultimately pulled the plug on the deal, the German tabloid claims.
The move came too late for Birmingham to sanction. With Ducksch included in the squad for Tuesday night’s Championship clash with Southampton, the club decided they no longer wanted to let the 32-year-old leave, causing the transfer to collapse at the final hurdle.
Ducksch will therefore remain at Birmingham for now, with the striker under contract with the club until 2028.
