Cologne have signed Croatian international Borna Sosa on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of 2026/27, with no purchase option. According to Get German Football News, the deadline-day move accelerated over the past 48 hours.

The 28-year-old reached a verbal agreement before the clubs finalised details. He arrives as an alternative to fellow 28-year-old Gideon Mensah on the left.

Sosa’s best club spell came at Stuttgart from 2018 to 2023 after signing from Dinamo Zagreb. He became one of the league’s most productive attacking wing-backs, making 115 appearances with 35 assists and five goals.

He joined Ajax in September 2023 for around €8m, then spent 2024/25 on loan at Torino, who declined a purchase option. After a brief return to Amsterdam, Crystal Palace signed him last summer for about €2.3m, but minutes were limited.

Sosa gives Kwasniok a different profile to Mensah, thriving when attacking down the left and supplying early crosses. His experience across the Bundesliga, Eredivisie, Serie A and the Premier League can help a side seeking to consolidate after last season’s 14th-place finish.

His first potential Bundesliga outing back in Germany is at Stuttgart on Matchday two. He is eager to experience Cologne’s atmosphere as a home player.
