Braulio Vázquez began his Valencia role in Vitoria, linking up with the squad hours after bidding farewell to Osasuna in Pamplona. He joins the camp ahead of tomorrow’s match against Quique Sánchez Flores’s Deportivo Alavés.

According to AS, he travelled by road from Navarra and, on arrival at the team hotel, dined with coaches, players and club staff. Tribuna Deportiva reports he has already spoken to Mendilibar, in what was only an initial contact to gauge interest.

He also greeted Óscar Sánchez’s staff. Sánchez will act as interim head coach until a replacement for Carlos Corberán is found, with Vázquez prioritising the right profile and not rushing the process. The club do not rule out Sánchez taking the team again on Sunday against Real Sociedad at Mestalla.

Valencia had flown in earlier. The squad list included five academy players, Otorbi, Mayol, Panach, Iker Córdoba and Aimar, plus the main returns, Guido and Rioja, who rejoined after recovering from injuries. Vázquez greeted them all, and knows much of the group, not least as the father of Jesús Vázquez.

He will remain in Vitoria making calls as he gathers information on potential candidates for the bench. Ernesto Valverde has already told him he will not return to management for a period of time.
