When Evan Ferguson arrived in the capital, fans’ hopes of seeing a resurgence in the Irish striker under Gian Piero Gasperini were sky-high.
After a few months, however, there was widespread disappointment with his performances, and, amid injury and attitude issues, there were even rumors that Roma might be negotiating with Brighton to send the number 11 back to England.
Last night in Celtic vs. Roma, he looked like a different player. With a brace and a shot against the post, Ferguson shone at Celtic Park: the performance didn’t go unnoticed by Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler.
During the press conference held ahead of the match against Liverpool, he commented on the striker’s performance.
“Evan is one of our players, we’re monitoring him closely, and he’ll always be an option for us. He’s currently on loan, and we’re happy with his brace yesterday. We’ll keep an eye on him.”
With these words, the German coach hinted that Ferguson remains on Brighton’s radar. It was also confirmed that Stefanos Tzimas will be out until the end of the season. December remains a key month for the Irishman’s future: Brighton can’t make a unilateral decision, and Gasperini will be able to evaluate him in upcoming training sessions and outings.
