Brighton right-back Charlie Tasker has joined newly-promoted League Two side Rochdale on a season-long loan.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, Albion sporting director Mike Cave said the club were pleased with Tasker’s progress through the academy and his first-team exposure. It is now time for the defender to play regularly at senior level, with this loan providing the opportunity.

The Mile Oak defender has returned from a thigh injury and featured with the first team in pre-season, including against Strasbourg in Vienna.

He links up with goalkeeper Nils Ramming, 19, who also joined Rochdale earlier in the summer. Rochdale have yet to collect a point in three games, with Ramming ever-present in goal.

Tasker’s attacking approach caught the eye when he made his Carabao Cup debut last season. He first joined the Seagulls at the age of six.

His departure follows fellow defender Freddie Simmonds moving to AFC Wimbledon on loan for the rest of the campaign.
